williams EP-5 New Haven electric

[:)] [?] Hello I have an opportunity to pick up this EP5 100 New Haven engine, model e 60 -12 ge-60 with true sounds. I need some information and any comments regarding this unit. Thank you Felix

Hello Felix,

I have an older model Williams EP-5 with horn only. A couple of years ago it fell off its shelf and to the floor. No damage, and still runs well. I’m sure this was an exception, but I consider it a durable loco!

I have the Amtrak version and run it on my catenary demo at York. These trains are slightly higher than the Postwar Lionel EP-5’s, the ferrel that holds the pantograph is plastic rather than metal and the pantographs have a solder tab on the frame to wire for overhead power through a slot in the cab roof. They contain a horn and bell sound selected by the polarity of the DC applied to the tracks by transformer or the sound activation button.
This train is a very smooth runner. For bare bones conventional operation Williams is unbeatable.
