I have seen and heard predominatly rave reviews for the Williams loco’s but what about their rolling stock. What’s the lowdown is it gauge/semi-scale/scale, graphics +/-, overall quality. I’ve never seen any in person, we don’t have any local shops that carry Williams. The one that closed had a few loco’s but none of their rolling stock.
Their ad in CTT looked good but a talented person in a studio can make almost anything look good.[%-)][|(]
Its semiscale… paint is OK.
It’s basically reproductions of postwar stuff, like most of their engines.
Their passenger cars are great, but you’re, at least in my opinion, a whole lot better off with the originals on the freight cars.
I have a few pieces of rolling stock. I’m happy with their over all quality.
I love my Williams rolling stock - they are basically a reproduction of Lionel postwar designs with modern tooling. Lots of roadnames offered. The caboose is a clone of Lionel’s Pennsy design. I think the boxcars are about the size of the 6464 series. They have gondolas, tank cars and hoppers too.
If you are a collector, stick with the real post war stuff. If you are an operator, I’d suggest Williams.
Some of the newer pieces such as hoppers, gondolas, and cabeese are postwar Lionel copies. The boxcars, stockcars, and reefers are made from old Kusan tooling. They are not postwar copies. They are basically good cars and made like postwar with generic detail cast in. The trucks are also the solid postwar design and aren’t sprung like many other brands are. These cars are not scale. They are scaled down.
Got one box car from them and the couplers will not open on Lionel uncoupler tracks. Got them wired for constant 14 V. All the MTHs and Lionels are doing fine so it is not the track sections.
