Williams southern pacific GS4

I have been into model trains ever since i can remember. I am currectnly in the process of building a permanent layout in by basement with the help of my Dad. I have the MTH Southern pacific bantam train set and am looking to and the Williams by Bachmann Gs4 to the set; but am wondering how this engine compares to other GS4’s by other companies. Any feed back to this would be greatly appreciated.

I bought an mth sp bantam set back in 2001. still have it. still love it. never went back in the box from day one. the williams are good solid runners, I have two of their steam locos. they are bigger than the bantam, but do not have the steam sound or the speed control. I run mine with railking passenger cars and they look great. find a hobby shop that sell williams so you can have a hands on look at them. I like them for their bullet proof running. however they are not as well detailed as a railking imperial. a lot less money however. hope this helps.

I just got the Williams GS-4 for Christmas and it is bigger that than the Bantam set I have but it looks better. It does not have the command control, sounds, smoke, etc… like the MTH PS2 but it does pull. I had the bantam passenger cars (3) and 4 polar express cars on one of our holiday layouts hooked up to a Z1000 and it pulled like a champ at about 1/4 throttle. This was my first Williams purchase and for the price I definitely will be purchasing more Williams locos both steam and diesel. I hope Williams comes out with a SP Daylight passenger car set as previously.

Thanks for the info; but i thought that all though it doesn’t have the Proto Sound option like MTH locos, i was under the impression that it had the True Blast 2 Digital whistle and bell, and an operating smoke unit? Am i wrong? Oh and by the way Happy New Year!!
