Williams trains

I am an absolute newby to this hobby. Got interested because of my four year old grand son who absolutely LOVES trains. He and I just recently obtained a ready to run Lionel set and have been having some fun with it. Surprisingly, I find that I am really interested in building an O guage layout and creating my empire. Unfortunately, money does come into the issue. On to my question. I have noticed that Williams trains are substantially less that others. I realize they do not have all the bells and whistles, but what to you guys think of the quality as a basic model. Are they worth what you pay or should I bite the bullet and go with Lionel or K-line, etc. Many thanks.

All I can say is that I’ve bought 13 types of Williams locomotives (several in more than one paint scheme) and they’re all terrific.

I bought my first Williams locomotive in 1994 and I’ve experienced exactly two problems that required maintenance.

Keep in mind that they don’t have all the bells and whistles that TMCC or DCS-equipped engines have, but they do pack in a lot of operating fun.

Hey Ya’ll

I am not new though I have only one train and am in the process of getting more as we speak. Anyway. I love williams from what I’ve heard. In my opinion, They are great models and are made to be like the postwar stuff from lionel. Also, order a williams catolog. That can help you much more than we can. However, check ebay fro deals and try mth railking line. I have their Railking Hudson freight set. I traded the track for tubular track (my first love) at my local hobby shop. Lionel Has some great starter sets and I have admired their Camleback and put down the Lackawwana one as my next choice. It is almost half off if you get it from trainworld or just trains. They also have an 0-6-0 tank switcher for $99 from them.

Williams has found a niche that noone has filled. I don’t see anyone challenging that position.
