Most phone wire is #24, that’s a bit on the light side for even short feeders for HO and larger. 2’ of feeder length means a total path length of 4 feet - you should be able to keep the feeders down to about a foot each instead of two feet each. If the wire you have actually is #22, go for it.

YES, but either EVERY PIECE of track, or every 3 teet…
Essentially it’s the coverage, and amperage of the engines, that come into play. Most of today’s engine are under 0.5 amps and with 3-4 max on any piece of flextack - that’s under 2 amps.
Your booster’s 8 amps is it’s capacity, and it is spread among many pieces of track.(and engines}…
