Several months ago there was an ad in Model RR for what looked like plastic straws that could be used over spliced wire instead of electrical tape. Does this sound familiar??? If not, does anyone have some suggestions on what to use besides tape?
It is called “Heat Shrink Tubing” You can get it at Radio Shack or Walmart, you can get a nice box with many sizes fro All-Electronics (MR advertiser) and they also have – ta da – 100’ spools of the stuff which is of course how the LION buys it.
LION too cheap to buy heat gun. Him just uses the barrel of his soldering iron, which after all is right next to the piece he is working on anyway. Some say that it is too hot and melts the plastic, LION has found this to be NOT SO, at least with the product he bought from All-Electronics.
PS: The also used to make a non-shrinkable variety which was used back in the day… You know that day, when TV sets were black and white and came in huge wooden boxes and had a metal chassis with vacuum tubes on it.
I appreciate the info. Unfortunately, I remember the days of B/W television- in the wooden box, with all the tubes in the back- along with transitor radios…
