Wiring problem

Building a new layout, laying down my mainline first, as I tested it when train comes to a switch everything goes dead. Now I know I need to put feeder wires on the other side do I have to do something special with the switch as in one position it will kick out power. What did I forget?

Thanks

A little more information… whose switch and what model?

Is your layout in a closed loop?

If so, how far do you have to go to pick up power again?

And is your track/switch’s new or used. I see you are testing as you go very good thing to do. IS your track dead after passing over the Frog? Are you using insulated track jointers on all 6 rail’s or 2 and or 4 rails if the latter then you need to provide power to the connecting track. A picture would be helpful if you are not sure of what you have.
