help please i got given a proto gp7 1000 or 2000 i dont know,it has a circult board with 8 diodes on it and is marked 440-x002 ,what i need to know is where do the wires go, the blue and white go to the front light,the blue and yellow to the back light,the red is screwed to the weight,where does the grey wire go,and the long black and the short black go,also the orange wire any help would be appreciated thank you. biggsy
What decoder? If you can post a picture of the circuit board, we might be able to tell you if it’s actually a plug-in. Some of these engines have plug-mounts that you can directly attach a decoder to. If so, and your decoder doesn’t have a plug, I’d recommend getting a decoder that does have one. Either exchange the wires-only decoder, or save it for another engine that doesn’t have a plug.
The decoder instructions should have a description of where each wire goes. They are pretty standard, though. Black and red go to the power pickups, gray and orange go to the motor, blue is the common for both headlights, and yellow and white go to the other light leads.
You may need to add resistors between the decoder and lights. I’ve removed the incandescent lights that come with some engines and replaced them with LEDs, adding a 1K resistor for each. This may (or may not) require some minor machining to get the LED mounted in the frame.
I think what he was asking is what the circuit board is - I don’t know if he has DCC so that might be why he’s stuck.
I’m thinking he got a P1K or P2K with an already-installed decoder and he got thrown off by it.
sorry guys i forgot to say no dcc,just dc as it was made 8 diodes a plug on one end with grey,red,orangeand two blacks one longer than the other,apart from 440-x002 it has 1998.07.03 on it nothing else.hope this helps. biggsy
So you’ve got the engine with the circuit board, but the board is NOT wired up and the wires are loose? Is the circuit board still attached to the engine, or has it been removed?
I’ve got a P2K GP-9 at home. They are probably the same. I’ll see if I can photograph it and show you how things go. Anybody else got one of these right now?
The ‘circuit board’ on the GP-7 is basically an 8-pin DCC socket with places for the wire tabs on it. The other ‘board’ with the diodes plugs in as if it were a decoder. I thought on mine there were tiny letters near where the holes for the wires are with a letter for each wire color. But maybe not.
Two blacks go in oen hole - the long black goes to the left side of the truck furthest from the board location and the short black is the left of the truck closest to the board. Orange and grey go to the motor. blue and white to the front bulb, blue and yellow to the rear bulb.

OK, the LION uses P1K subway cars. He takes out the original circuit board and tosses into a box that is overflowing with original car innards.
The LION replaces the couplers with draw bars, and wires all six subway cars together. There will either be one or two power cars to a train since they come in four car sets. All 48 wheels now pick up power, and I built my own lighting system. One non powered car gets a full wave rectifier, a power regulator and a 0.33 Farad capacitor, to power the lighting circuits. Other unpowered cars also get capacitors.

If the Lion does not have what you need try Walther’s they bought Proto few years back. I cooked the board on m PK2000 SD 7 few years back and replacement board was $10.75.
If you happen to be DCC Jerry, I would hard wire a decoder. Not as hard as it sounds and mine worked better after I stopped using the board.
