I am almost finished cleaning/lubing my P2K and have lost the paper I had my wiring diagram written on. I need to know what wires go where on the top circut board under the shell. Which wires go to the motor and which ones to the lights etc…? I don’t know how to explain exactly what I am looking for, If you have any questions, please ask. Thanks, Mike
Mike

Red = Right rail
-
Black = Left rail
-
Orange = Motor (+)
-
Gray = Motor (-)
-
White = Front headlight
-
Yellow = Rear headlight
-
Blue = Light Common or ground
Tom
Not to be picky, but the blue common is actually the high side for the light outputs, the white and yellow go low when the function is active. Doing it that way is useful when the functions are tied together.
Thanks, but not exactly what I need to know. Under the shell there are 2 circut boards, a larger one attached to the weight and a smaller one that plugs onto the larger one with 8 pins. On this smaller board there are 8 post where the light wires and the truck wires and the motor wires are fastened. The post are number P1-P8. I need to know what wires are to be attached to the P1 post, To the P2 post and so on. The truck (pick-up) wires are black and red, the motor wires are also black and red. The light wires are black and white. Which post do the motor wires, the truck wires, the front lights and the rear lights go on.
This is a DC loco, thelarger circut board is the one that will be replaced when I decide to convert it to DCC If I am reading the instruction sheet correctly. Thanks, I am going to have to find out where the wires go if I want this loco to run again. Mike
If I’m understanding you correctly, the larger circuit board has a plug in it with an 8-pin NMRA plug. The smaller board is the “dummy” (or shorting) board so that the loco will run on DC power.
On the few locos built this way that I’ve seen, the plug is usually keyed so that it only fits in one way. If you’ve cut the wires to the “NMRA” circuit board (the bigger one)… the diagram for wiring the pins shows them as such:
-
Orange --Motor Right
-
Yellow – Rear Light
-
Unused
-
Black – Left Rail
-
Grey – Motor Left
-
(White) – Front Light
-
Blue – Function Common
-
Red – Right Rail
I guess I am still not making myself clear. There are NO yellow, orange, gray, or blue wires. Red wires from the track to the board, black wires from the track to the board, red wire from the motor to the board, black wire from the motor to the board, and black and white wires from each light (4 total) to the board. The small board, which plugs into the larger board is where I am having trouble, I don’t know what wires go to which terminal. Most all of the light wires are still connected to the small board, but I had to remove the motor and track wires from the small board to remove the weight so I could get to the trucks to remove them. I can try to take a pic if I need to. Thanks Mike
OK, then use the pin numbers from the post above. Where it says orange/grey motor wires, use red/black. Front light to front light, back to back.
Perchance, is this what you need to know?
You need to be cautious, though, because I have ran into cases of Chinese manufactured products not complying with these color code standards.
The good thing is that as long as he knows which wires come from the motor, and which from the rails he can’t hurt anything. If the rail wires are swapped everything will work fine anyway. If the motor wires are swapped, the train will run backwards. the only place to run into trouble is lights, whcih are still hooked up, I think?
Yes, most of the light wires are still connected, only one white light wire has come un-hooked while handeling it. I do know that the 4 wires in question, ( one red from the trucks, one red going to the motor, one black from the trucks, and one black going to the motor) go in the corners of the circut board. I just don’t know which wire goes to which corner. I figure I could connect the red to the red and the black to the black and the loco would run, just no lights, This will be a last option. Thanks for the help, Mike
The link in cacole’s post has a pic shows which wire goes where. Use the red motor wire for the orange, and the black for the grey.
I see the pic on the link that will tell me which wire goes where. I really appriciate all the help. Saved another loco, These forums are a great asset to modeling railroads. Mike
It may help next time to take a photo of the board before taking it off.[:)]
Does this help? (the front and rear headlight, yellow and white might be reversed)
