Wisconsin awards funds for two freight rail projects

Scott Walker, why is it that you don’t to fund passenger service in your state? You know damn well people will use it. You are such a jerk!

While I agree that the state should not fund these private projects, I also believe the state need not fund a money loosing passenger project neither.

A million-plus dollars from the state to move freight for the benefit of just 2 companies, but nothing to move the taxpaying voters of Wisconsin. I wonder where McNeilus Steel and Menard’s (and their executives) stand on the list of top “campaign contributors” to the governor?

The money in taxes and jobs that McNeilus and Menard’s provides to the state more than make up for this healthy expansion of the economy in Wisconsin. I can understand you people in Illinois not grasping economics since you barely have a state left and everybody is leaving… but to criticize the state of Wisconsin of fraud??? Isn’t your governor still in jail?

Mel & Mo: you sound like babies… By the way, our Hiawatha service that runs between Mil. and Chicago is heavily supported. The one that we actually use.

Perhaps public priorities are misplaced regarding public transportation in Wisconsin. The good of the public should outweigh the greed of the few.

Exactly how much public transportation could you get for $872,439? That’s the amount the State of Wisconsin invested for these two projects? That amount wouldn’t even upgrade one mile of track for high speed rail standards. The railroads realized you couldn’t make money with passenger traffic way back when. It was the U.S. Mail they hauled that subsidized passenger trains back then. And now the internet and private carriers have replaced the service offered by the postal department which, like passenger trains of the past, is going bankrupt also.

Thes projects are nothing new. The state funds several rail projects every year. It is called incentive. If the state didn’t, many companies would likely leave.

As for passenger rail, the state does fund the Hiawatha. HSR to Madison was the dumbist idea in the entire world. The taxpaying citizens of this state spoke when WE elected Gov. Walker to STOP that needless project!

Michael, Freight Pays makes money. That is why the class 1’s haul it. Why do you think most if not all passenger rail is government subsidized? Who pays for all the passenger trains in Illinois?

Willis,
Betcha that the jobs saved/created by the two freight expansions are fewer than those lost when Talgo shuts down their Wisconsin plant. I agree with Michael, follow the money…

Willis Tallman, how can you call the Hiawatha service yours when you live in Pennsylvania? You speak out of your pooper.

I guess it is safe to say the state of WI is not broke anymore if they are giving away grant money for such things?

I suppose other modes don’t receive subsidies. Especially highways and air travel, right Gregory Davis? By the way, Gregory, LEARN to spell!

Save big money at Menards! That’s more money that can be spent on repairing Paul Menards race cars.

Thomas, You’re correct. The previous governor gave a no-bid contract to Talgo, shutting down a wonderful local train manufacturer “Super Steel” who were depending on that contract, and giving the sweetest deal ever to a foreign company. The ‘breadcrumbs’ aren’t hard to find.

Melmo, I just moved from Milwaukee where I rode the train frequently. Your comments are both lewd and uninformed, not to mention your grammar and syntax are no better than that of a kid in junior high. Let us know when you graduate.
