i’ve been looking around for some good designs for this unit in HO scale. and all i could find was proto 2000’s. and i heard it was limited run and is no longer available. are there any other companies that make WC SD45s in HO? aside from Kato. i’m looking for ones that dont have that ugly V pattern on the nose. but rather the usual nose paint.
Kato also did two other numbers, 6585 and 6582, in the very first run of SD45’s they did. You can find them every once in a while on ebay or at shows. They are the same scheme as the Proto 2000’s. The kato SD45 you speak of is 6677, the very first SD45 that WC repainted.
As for other companys making them, I don’t think any others than Proto and Kato have done them in plastic.
maybe athearn will when they update their shells.
whats the latest on that rumor? does athearn plan on doing that anytime soon? updating their old SD45 shell?
so it’s just p2k and kato that currently make WC SD45s and p2k no longer is selling them?
Just because they’re not being produced doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Check out some train shows or online hobby stores.
I have 3 Kato SD45s and they are great runners. Besides the 6585 and 6582, Kato also did a WC version without a road #. Later they did another run, the 6677. Here is a link to a online store. http://www.amherst-depot.com/sd45katoho.htm I think the prices are high. You can probably do much better on ebay.
