Well the OL and I just took the plunge. After searching ourselves blind we found a merchant that supposedly still had -One- full set of the Athearn Genesis-Walthers Super Chief warbonnet engine. dummy and eight cars. 662.00 dollars later winces hard it should be on its way crosses fingers
Looks like we have now taken the big step! laughs
Wish us luck that it was really in stock and not just a chain yank.
here is a look at what we ordered, through a different company though.

Good luck, It sounds nice!
Which merchant? Most I’ve dealt with are honest and reliable. You could flick them an email just to make sure.
Good luck!!
Ken.
The OL and I found it through Flying Scotsman Hobbies at http://www.fshobby.com/
they seem like very reliable fellows, the concern in that it might be out of stock… seems its become a rare and hard to find piece (at least the engine)
Peace.

Whoa what a purchase. Hope you enjoy it!
This guy I’m helping build a train layout is buying trains like mad! He’s got tons of HO stuff a lot of it expensive too!
[:O][wow] Talk about timely, friendly and courteous service! Just got an email back from Peter King at Flying Scotsman Hobbies. He was troubled to inform me that he didnt have enough -lighting sets- to fill my order and would it be agreeable to send me the Engine and cars and 3 lighting sets and the other lighting sets when they came in with no shipping and handling! LOL Considering that the only other place I found the engine for sale was in -Switzerland- and almost double the price we just paid, I am pleased as the cat that got the canary with that! (and the OL is over buyers remose heheh)
I would definately use these gentlemen again; quick and business-like.
Peace.
