I see no mention of Doyle McCormack’s SDP40F No. 644. It has been running at least since 2006

What’s the latest?
It has been five days…any updates?
I think the lesson here is, if there is significant locomotive of which an example should be preserved, we can’t wait until the last ones have sold for scrap to start working on preserving one. PLAN AHEAD. START NOW.
The RR museum of PA is already in discussion with Amtrak on acquiring an AEM7, and has drawn up ‘wish list’ of other equipment currently in service they would like to add.
As for MRL, they are a business. I can’t blame them for selling old assets they no longer need for cash. That’s a big chunk of money, and it all helps the bottom line.
I am shocked only 86 SD-45’s were built. I saw many on the PC in south bend, and a few on BN’s race track. I am shocked …I would have thought 100’s were built.
David, only 86 F45s were built. Many more SD45s were built, over 1,200 units to be precise.
Jim Lekas of Oregon: Isn’t Doyle McCormick’s locomotive an F-45? Thought I saw a picture of it a few years back painted in a modified “Daylight” orange scheme and it definitely was an F-45. There was a picture of it in a book about “cowl unit” locmotives a few years back. I seem to recall the road # was #743 (?).
As for the 14 original EMD FP-45s, there are preserved ATSF examples at: Perris (as mentioned below); Union, Illinois - IRM, Age-of-steam Museum (formerly in Dallas, now moved?) and I think a couple of other preserved units (?) but do not recall where they are. ATSF #5944 (Ex pass unit #104) was wrecked on the Santa Fe in 1981 and scrapped and I think one other ATSF unit was wrecked (and scrapped too) but don’t recall the road# of the unit at the moment.
All five Milwaukee Road FP-45s (#s 1-5) were scrapped between 1982 and 1984. Pity that one wasn’t preserved, but the Milwaukee was in bankruptcy back then and probably couldn’t donate a unit, even if they had wanted to …
