MTH decoders do not comply with the NMRA DCC Standards so you must have an MTH DCS system to program them; they are not DCC as we know it, but are a proprietary system.
The Genesis probably has an MRC decoder. Does it run on your layout?
I don’t have any MRC decoders myself. I was reading earlier that some earlier models of them actually don’t support readback. Maybe someone else can confirm that.
The Athearn Challenger use MRC decoders that lack readback. You’d do the same thing, manually create an entry using the defaults and manually update it with any CV changes you’ve made.
Is this true of the newer MRC sound decoders that are in Genesis locomotives ? I was looking at the Genesis SD45-2 sound units for Norfolk Southern that Athearn just announced for a September delivery. I wouldn’t want to end up not being able to read back values.
