Woodchip cars and brakewheels?

I am putting together some EC Shops Woodchip cars (DumpEnds) and the directions say with this type of car there is no brake wheel applied or brake platform.

I thought all freight cars had brakewheels? How would they stop the car and brake? Also what other cars have no brake wheels?

They use the ratchet type as shown on this ATSF Flat car.

Details West makes them and they are available from Walthers.

All cars have to have some sort of hand applied brake so cars do not roll away when they are off air. There are very few exceptions, the Road Railer, for example, but otherwise it has to have some way of holding the car stationary when unattended. This does not mean that they have "brake wheels’ as their are other types of handbrakes, such as the ratchet type.

I believe the instructions are stating that they have to brake wheel but may have a ratchet type handbrake on the side of the car instead of on the end. I would find a prototype photo to help yourself out.

Looking more closely on the side, I do see a ratchet type brake.

In my sales flyer I see Walthers is bringing back the Woodchip Gondola in many road names, its from there RTR line.

Auto Max cars also don’t have break wheels and I want to say auto racks too but I am not 100% positive.
