I bought some woodland scenic trees today, the plastic ones which you bend into a shape and attatch foliage clusters. My question is whats the best way to bond the foliage clusters to the plastic trees? Is contact cement okay? or white glue or yellow carpenters glue? I have seen the hob e tac by woodland scenics or is this just white glue that they give another name
Tacky Glue from the craft store works too. Hob E Tac is either contact cement or tacky glue. I gave up trying to glue the foliage on and just get the Ready-Made bulk packs.
I used Tacky Glue on these trees also. I also found that the method in the directions, to apply glue to the branches and then shake the tree trunk in the bag of clump foliage, didn’t work. Maybe this is because Tacky Glue is not as sticky. I applied the foliage chunks to each branch individually and it worked well. After the tree dried I gave it a soaking with diluted white glue from a spray bottle to hold the foam together.
I have used all of the previously mentioned and found it was not very satifactory. I tried testors model glue, yes I said testors model glue the stuff in the red & white tube. And I love it. The foam actually stays on the tree. I turned it up side down after drying and shook it violently. Nothing fell off.
an other good way to make trees is get a flower brush and after the season is over and there dryied up cut them down spray paint them the color you want and your on your way. Time consuming though.
Tacky glue works best. The secret is to “glop” it on with a small brush, and then let it dry (even overnight) until it’s, well, tacky. If it’s still white, it hasn’t dried long enough. I put the foliage in a plastic tub. Then rolling the trunks in the tub works perfectly.
