I am just starting an N gauge layout, but really like the HO scale River Pass layout by Woodland scenics. Since I have never worked with the sub-terrain before, I’d like to start with a kit, with directins, etc. Is it possible to set up the River Pass layout using N guage flex track instead of HO track? I realize this would make the mountains seem almost twice as tall and the river gorge twice as deep, which isn’t really a BAD thing, but it would also give me four times as much room for scenery, buildings, etc.
Possible - might be a little tough getting the track to fit in the designated areas since it was designed for Atlas sectional track in HO, but by using flex track you could make it fit. Could be a good idea scenically. You could probably get more track in - a few more sidings, etc, to make it more fun to operate.
Randy, thanks. I’ve seen the N guage layout; it’s okay, but I much prefer the River Pass design. I was also thinking that, with the wider turn radius of an N gauge on an HO design, I could run longer cars and trains, rather than be constrained by too tight a curve.
Yeah, you should be able to do what you want. The kit appears to include the 4 tunnel portals, which will look a bit big for N scale. You might want to consider purchasing replacement N scale tunnel portals.
