I’ve got the risers installed, inclines installed, and plaster cloth installed over the whole thing. Would it be advisable to seal the plaster cloth or use spackle over the plaster cloth ( to fill in the air holes in the plaster cloth and to smooth out bumps of plaster) before glueing the foam roadbed in place? I would also like to know what the opinions are to what type of glue to use. Should I use the WS Foam Tack Glue?
horailfan, I would seal the plaster cloth first. I use shellac, myself. Afterwards go over with the spackle.
When installing plaster cloth, it;s a good idea to rub a finger over it gently before it dries, to seal the holes. That also seems to make it stronger.
That said, in your case it probably doesn’t matter as far as holding the roadbed, but you probably should do whatever you’re going to do before installing scenery, at least in the few inches near the roadbed, just so you don’t mess up the roadbed and/or track later.
And yes, you can use Foam Tack Glue. But you’ll have to weight or pin the roadbed down while the glue sets.
I use their low-temp glue gun to install the foam. You’ve gotta work with fairly small sections (a couple of feet or so), and do it quickly, but it sets in a minute or two, and you’re done.
