I’m glad to see these states take an effort to increase the speed for these short haul passenger trains. this will certainly make these trains more attractive to the traveling public thus taking the load off of the overcrowded roads and offer these travelers a more relaxed trip. Is there any reason trains 21 and 22 won’t be allowed to exceed the 79 MPH speed?

It’s too bad the Michigan project does not include an additional station at Detroit Metro Airport (Amtrak runs along the northern boundary of the airport). That would provide a better solution than driving to fliers in southern Michigan as well as provide parking for those in the Detroit Metro area who want to travel on Amtrak (those who use the Ann Arbor station know what I’m talking about).

I don’t see East Lansing in here:( does that mean they aren’t upgrading that route?

Trains 21/321/421 and 22/322/422 engines do not have the HSR signaling equipment that the HSR engines have. The HSR engines are pulled from a different pool than the standard Amtrak engines. The equipment can certainly do 110. Interesting that on the same route, back in the 1920s and 1930s, 110 mph was commonplace.
