Not much of a fall. No life vest?
Perhaps the ability to swim should be a requirement for those working on bridges over waterways.
I agree not much of fall where was life vest and life line
Was the person in this terrible case wearing a safety harness? an if not WHY it would saved this poor mans life!
I don’t know about US requirements, but in Canada, the Labour Code requires fall arrest (harness etc) for any work more than 3 meters (10 feet) above ground. Swimming abilities and life vests are useless in any falls not over water, and likely most falls into water. If those comments were intended to be funny, I don’t see the humour. There is nothing amusing about someone dying while trying to earn a living… Safety awareness and training, and adherence to safety rules and procedures would have prevented this needless death.
As far as I know OSHA requires workers to wear a fall arrest gear on any job more than, I think, 9 feet high. I do aerial bucket truck work and we wear fall arrest any time in the bucket. (And hardhat, steel tipped boots, traffic vests, etc at all times on the job.) It’s not the worker’s choice - safety gear is mandatory.
That contractor should be shut down. Worker safety has to be number one.
