Norfolk Southern had ad in todays ajc looking for Firemen/Oilers., says you can apply online at their web site., for those boys and girls that may be interested in working on the Railroad., go for it.Thats the atlanta journal constitution(ajc)

must be hiring in a diffint state checked in NC area will keep an eye out for it here.

Firemen? I didn’t think they existed anymore.

Edit: after reading the job description, I see it’s not a fireman/oiler in the traditional sense.

The Fireman/Oilers positions are just deisel shop attendants. The sand, fuel, and (supposed to clean) and put supplies on the engines for the crews. Minor repairs like brake shoes, etc.

yeah, I realize that now.

Sounds like a “UTILITY MAN” job. Clean the toilets, take out the trash, clean the windows, put sand in the sand box kind of thing.

A Utility Man is an extra Conductor/Brakeman, working a yard assignment that can attach to yard or road crews assisting any and all trains that need an extra man on the ground to help with switching, watching shoves, hanging an EOT, etc. Nothing to do with the Mechanical Dept.
