Well things are getting there. Here is my latest mock up of my shelf railroad. upper deck is S gauge American Flyer - old school. Lower deck is New and PW Lionel. That TMCC is a ball… all radii will be 0-72 min. Gargraves is the norm, but had to plan out the road bed and I had allot of Lionel and K line track.
A Pennsy GG-1 4907 with original postwar Madison cars hustles past a string of Union Pacific Tank cars waiting in the yard. A southern 0-8-0 takes a small mixed freight over the truss bridge in the back. Gargraves will soon replace all O gauge track.
A set of F3 A-B-A’s pass by a set of F7 A-B-A’s. The F3’s came out in 2002 I think? They both are a real blast to run. The upper track is only mocked up. Does any one know the standard track to track height clearance?
4009 E-7’s A-A made 2007… just added a motored B unit last week. These smoke great, run real smooth and the sound is out of this world. Again Southern 6535 0-8-0 sits on the upper over pass.
Thank you for the pics, J. Daddy. Could you go back and ID the engines under the pics? The last pic is priceless…frame that one along with the caption and hang it in your train room. Thanks!
Actually the flyer 293 is visible on the upper deck there next to sam the semaphore. All the photos show Lionel locomotives on the lower deck. The engine going over the Lionel Bridge is the latest scale Southern 0-8-0 that came out in 2006. Its nice but does not have the TMCC electronics inside, just conventional control with rail sounds 5.0. I hope to upgrade her soon.
Layout is L shape 30 ft X 2ft on one wall and the next wall 32 ft X 26 in. Next to come is the engineering challange of the dogbone turn loops at each end.
J.Daddy: Must be nice to own your own wharehouse!!! [(-D]
Looks great. But you better have a big budget to get that baby completed. I especially like the NYC E loco [tup]
[/img] As you can see the upper track is not working but one more week end at it should fix that. Here the Mighty E-7’s NYC is slipping through a parked Lionel NYC 0-8-0 and a string of scale lionel refrigerator cars. Hey watch that kink in that track!
Hey hit that emergency button quick, we got a run away!
Lionel - 2007 catalog… really nice you would not be disapointed A-B-A… the B units are either a dummy, Tmcc dummy break down, or powered Tmcc w/no smoke. I just bought the B unit powered and lashed together its over 3 ft long!
JDADDY…PRICELESS COLLECTION. LIKE THE TRAINS TOO. YOU ARE ONE BUSY GUY. I THINK YOU ARE LUCKY TO HAVE GOTTEN AS MUCH DONE AS YOU HAVE. I’D FRAME THESE PICS. NO LIONEL GIRL’S TRAIN?
Yeah I have to thank the wife for that… she is a star. I have trimmed down the workin’ on the railroad to two nights a week. Somebody told me when they saw my trains saying Wow you are one lucky guy! And my reply was the real treasure is the family I have.
No girls train. there just getting past the Godzilla stage. and Lionel track is so sharp, cut myself many a times just putting what you see here together. Sure Fast track is a good shoe in but there are just not ready for it yet, and I wasn’t ready for the price! So right now they are my best fans.
You know my Dad bought a girls train in 1962 for 27.50 at a 5 and dime store here in Plymouth Mich. He sold it in the early 90’s for 2,100!? Yikes! Well thats a thing of the past…
I was going to post additional pictures to this progressive post but what happened to all the previous photos? Is this because of the websites upgrade?
I thought they were gone too. But it just took a little longer to see them. They’re still there.
I checked out the Lionel A-B-A and it’s pretty pricey. Way out of my budget. I’d have to go with the Williams version and have Proto 2 installed.
Keep looking I paid 299.00 for the A-A at the visitor store (Lionel) then 150 on E bay for the B powered unit… 450.00 to 500.00 is pretty reasonable for these, still half of what a good scale steam locomotive cost… still saving for the 4-8-4 Northern…
Yeah, I found out why I cannot load or see the pics… my work blocked the photobucket website due to high web traffic (saves them money) So I will have to send from my home computer instead of at lunch time at work.
To be honest, I’m not all ga-ga over the Legacy stuff. To me, it’s not worth the added expense of buying the system and locos just for sound and improved TMCC loco control. Plus there are still some problems with the Legacy system that haven’t been resolved (excessive battery drain, overheating charger, and loss of communication with the base). So paying big $$$ for a Legacy loco isn’t in the cards for me. If I can get the same thing in MTH or Williams with a TMCC add-on board, I’d be happy. [:)]
