Working with Brass Engines

I’ve just started working with brass engines. Does anyone know of a good reference book or magazine to help me with the ins and outs of working with brass models. Also, if someone has a tip on the best method for soldering and/or joining brass parts, let me know.

David,
Brass models can and often are tempermental beasts. You didn’t specify which scale you’re working in, this can make a diffenced at times.
The best advice I can give, without more info, is to find someone in your area who has expirenece to act as a mentor. By thier very nature of being “hand made”, no two models are exactly alike and different manufactures have their preffered way of doing things.
Be patient and know that there are ways of recovering from just about any mistake including painting and soldering.

Thanks John,

I’m working in HO scale. The model is an Oriental Limited GP35. I had a run of bad luck this weekend with it. I tried to remove the cab interior, when I applied heat, the entire low nose fell into pieces. I guess you don’t need that much heat to pull things apart. Any suggestions on reading material, tips or putting it back together?
