Would Someone Please Advise How to Post a picture (in basic English)?

Hi,

I have read the Post “how to post a picture” and simply cannot figure it out.

I would like to know two things,

  • How can I get a picture to go along with my name posted on the left side of each posting.

  • How can I get a picture to post within the content of a posting?

Of course the above is simple stuff for many of you, but frankly I just can’t figure it out.

Thank you!

Step 1 - register at a free webhosting site for photos & videos. Photobucket (although they seem to be having major issues this week…their images take forever to load these days) and I use railimages.com. Once you are accepted, you must upload your images in reduced density format. The server here at Kalmbach needs a 24/7 webhost since they don’t have the capacity to store everyone’s images, so that is why you must use a webhost.

Step 2 - acquire the URL of your full-sized image as it appears on the webhost site.

Step 3 - Paste it into a text box such as the one you and I are using to communicate. At the front of the URL, use square brackets around the letters “img”. Do that at the end of the URL, but place a forward slash in between the front bracket and the “img”. This one /

Step 4 - Type what you want around that code for text, and then hit “post.” Yer in.

The photo on the left would be added in your own personal profile. Click on “Update Profile” at the top of the message list.

To add a photo within a message, it has to be hosted at another photo hosting site, such as Photobucket ( http://www.photobucket.com/ ) who offer fee memberships. Upload the photo from your computer to their site, copy the supplied tag at the bottom of the photo on their site that has [ IMG ] at the start. Paste this link into your photo. That’s it!

Here is one of my photos from Photobucket:

The above link looks like this, I’ve had to add spaces to the IMG tags to illustrate it:

[ IMG ]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/railfan/Figures.jpg[ /IMG ]

Good luck!

The simplest way to post a picture is to go to photobucket.com and start a FREE account there. They ask for an email address. You need a sign on name and a password. Then after you have the account select “browse” to look for pictures on your computer. After you have selected the picture click on “UPLOAD” and the picture will upload to your photobucket site. On the photobucket site below each picture are 4 lines of text and a window next to each. Select with your mouse the LAST window that says IMG code. This automatically copies the link. Now when you’re in the trains forum and you want to show the picture, simply Hold CTRL and V on your computer to paste the link on the forum. It will look something like this…

[IMG]http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e77/driline/IMG_0685.jpg

(except I took the last IMG off so you could see what the link looks like in text. Thats all there is to it. The forum “LINKS” to your pictures on the photobucket server. It does NOT look at your computer.

Hope this helps…

I did write a step by step process so long ago I could not find it.

You have your JPGs on your hard drive.

Go to http://www.photobucket.com/ register. When excepted do a download for each JPG. Follow their instructions to upload you JPGs one at a time.

You should see all of your photos. Go out and back in photobucket just to make sure your JPGs are there. You can rename them now.

You will see the “URL” it is long and partially hidden.

OPEN NOTEPAD

Double click on the URL in photobucket and it will turn blue. Right click and select copy. Now paste it into notepad now delete the http// (trains request adds it own HTTP//).

Do the same step for the rest of the JPGs your want to download to trains.

Open the forum. Above You will see an icon of a tree click on it. Now you should get a request for the URLs for the JPGs. Copy from notepad each URL and paste into the request box.

Note if you are using “FIREFOX” it will not let you paste until you select “T” clipboard above.

Okayyyy, let’s see if this works

Cool looking layout. Is it tough lugging all that wood upstairs?

I do most of the work in the garage and bring it up afterwards. The open grid bench work is pretty manageable bringing it up the stairs.
