WPF 12-18 to 12-20

Overdue to start the WPF, so I will give it a shot

At Honest Sam’s in Greenvale Junction, a couple are looking at used cars. He is trying to convince her that the sporty maroon coupe is a better buy for a young couple than the practical tan sedan.

Of course this never happens in real life. [swg]

Like the cars Who makes them ?

Is that a Hudson Hornet poster on the office wall ?

Here’s a video I shot 2 weeks ago

Here are a few box cars I did using undecorated kits and Herald King Decals.

Thanks for Looking,

Rick

Nice work, everyone.

Alco FAB2 with a WB through freight.

George … I like the used car dealer scene.

Terry … That’s a great video.

Rick … nice freight cars.

DJ … The Alcos look real .Very nice.

Here’s some steel mill action. …

Thanks for starting us off, George.

Garry, you have a fine complex there…the iron works, I mean…[8D] Nice layout!

VERY nice everybody!!! [tup] [tup]

Here’s a shot from me.

A collage of the pictures I’ve taken this year…

Jarrell

Is the grade really that steep or did you have the camera at an angle ?

It is the camera angle, Terry. I have the camera, which is a Canon Powershot, and not a videocam, held on the end of a length of wood for reach, and it is hard to control for angle in that I can’t really see the viewfinder from where I must stand. So, the effect is greatly exaggerated.

In the overall view below, you can see the path the train is taking. It is against the far wall on the upper curve. There it is just under 2.9%, so it is steep, but not unrealistic by any means. The camera is low by the trestle at one point, but the way I had to hold it out, clear of the structures, meant that it was tilted somewhat as well as facing upward.

Crandell, that really is amazing considering the camera was out on a stick and you managed to keep the subject within the frame.

Very good!

Jarrell

Thanks, Jarrell. I undertook several trials until I was at the point of diminishing returns. At some point the limitations of my ‘apparatus’ and the layout conditions meant I had to call it a video. [:)]

Another great shot, Grampy. I think I have figured out what impresses me so much about your scenery. It stands up well to close up photography. I think my stuff looks good from 3 feet but I’m not sure the close ups would be so kind to it. I think that is the difference between good and great scenery.

Just out of curiosity, how big is your layout?

John

Not much new here. I finished this sw from athearn the other day and is now up for sale. I tore it all apart and swapped the metal side frame for the plastic side frame trucks. I isolated and cleaned the motor and wired pickups to each side of the truck. I had an n scale decoder in it and wired the front led and was in the process of wiring and testing the back light and smoked the decoder on the rails(short). Oh well took the decoder out and wired for dc and finished weathering it.

Good job all.

Thank you, John, I appreciate that. It’s approx. 15’x36’, with off layout staging at both ends. DJ.

Great work so far everyone!

Well, began my furniture factory scratchbuild today. Tonight I will begin the smooth-it lot for it. The layout is a bit messy from working with the smooth-it and plaster, but I will eventually get that cleaned up.

Yard overview 12/18/09:

As always a fantastic thread for the weekend! I always look forward to seeing everyone’s modeling.

About all I have accomplished that is photogenic at the moment is to finish the basic assembly of 2 more Tichy Train Group Flat cars. Here they are on their first run around the layout.

I have 4 of the 6 now finished (except for some weathering - sometime soon).
