DJ … Alcos look great!
Here’s an EMD SD9
Another great shot DJ. I have been working on the TT all week hooking up power, indexing, testing all the service leads and painting rails. Next week is landscaping.
Nothing new here, but this is a shot from the old layout.

Sorry to all those in advance with dial-up.
I got a new F45. Turns out the previous owner put a decoder in it, and wired it up to have a working beacon.
My new F45 next to my old one
Also got an SW15:
And an NYC F3B, whose fate has yet to be determined. Either remove the DBs and the overhangs to model BN 703, totally obliterate it to make an RCU, trade it off for a different F-unit, or sell it.
I also got some SMDs and a BB F7 from some other members on this forum. I’m gonna have to buy some more tools before using the SMDs.
Now that my mine loader is finished and i can run live loads i painted up and decaled some tyco cars in the Berwind scheme
Since i model Thurmond i thought this part of the decal was neat
Very groovy photos and modeling, peoples!
Thanks for sharing.
I’ve been installing Bullfrog turnout controls on my N scale Free-moN Staging Yard module:
Don’t worry, the knobs are protected by a slanted shelf that runs along the side of the module:
I’ve also been improving the Atlas C55 turnouts I used by shimming the throwbar under the stock rails:

Simple fix that improves performance 101%.
Back to building Bullfrogs!
(before heading out to run a 5K with my daughter as her “running buddy” )
Happy Mother’s Day!
Great pictures as always. And great instructional post too. I completed this a few weeks ago.

As always, GREAT stuff so far. Some hoppers at the coal depot…
Awesome stuff.
I cant say that mine is all that glorious but it was a lot of work. I installed two new shelving units under the layout that have replaced the shelf brackets that were beginning to sag a little. This is new foundation is preparation for slight expansion project soon to come build a new layout that will allow continuous running, I guess a dog bone style shelf layout
I used that same coal loader as a sand & gravel loader on my layout, except the log cabin look did not go with Maine, so I changed to corrogated metal. “North Greenvale Sand & Gravel”
I tried toning mine down with black mascara dust and chalk. Looks like yours turned out good (with a few extras).
Gidday All, Great stuff as per usual. My offering is from when I was but a mere lad.
Cheers,the Bear.
Bear - great old Hornby set!
DJ - Great as usual.
Mr Funkeymonkey - Nice video on how to get Atlas turnouts working good. I will be approaching that by the end of the year with my extensions to the layout.
Here is something from me - An ex SP, UP 9-44CW patched and weathered by John 'The N scale addict" It arrived a week or so ago, Was too ill last weekend to post the pic.
And also the lumber load I got from John
Cheers,

Here’s a picture from a few months ago-a manifest train rolls along the mainline of the West Central Minnesota Railroad. Still have work to do on switch stands, I see.
Nice Work Everyone!! Excellent Modelling & Photography!
I got may Airbrush part & am now back in business! I needed to detail & mint out the models, so the wait was not a hold up. Glad to start getting color on these.
Chad,
What kind of compressor do you use for your Airbrush? I have a Brush, just need to find a compressor.
Chad
Hey htgguy,
I hope I’m not out of line, but I just had to adjust your image for proper white balance. Your modeling, composition, and lighting is awesome but the yellow wash just takes it all away.
If I may, here’s the difference between incorrect and proper white balance.
Not only does it make the photo more real, but it brings out your fine modeling by showing your subtle variation in grass, separates the ballast, and especially shows off the dirt patch on the right corner!
I think that using proper white balance is the very first thing anyone should learn about their camera.
For a more detailed explanation of what white balance is and why it is so important, check out this post.
Hi Chad & All,
I use an old Badger model (now called a Whirlwind compressor) that is all blue, has auto Shutoff at 40 Pounds & it connects to a full size water trap, then to a custom buffer tank that looks like a small Fat Propane tank (about 5"x8"), & it has two adjustable regulators & lines with quick connects.
I custom built/configured the whole setup, the tank is custom & heavier than a propane tank & epoxy sealed on the inside, as there are numerous horror stories of those propane conversions eventually rusting out & causing accidents.
With the buffer tank the compressor runs slightly less, & some experts say a tank will reduce compressor pulsing, but that could be just a gimmick. It has worked for me for over 20 years.
There are newer one that are setup this way already, but back then I did not have those options, & took airbrushing more seriously too.
My airbrush that I use for most model painting is an older Iwata HP-C with a small needle.
