This week my attention has been on getting my two latest motive power acquisitions ready for service. I picked them up for a fraction of their retail cost. Both units had some light cosmetic damage.
First is an Atlas U30C. The mounting holes for the endrails had to be drilled out so the endrails (the ones supplied are for a U33C) could be added. I couldn’t find any visors lying around so I fashioned a pair from card stock. They’re likely not to scale but I like them and that’s what matters here. I got the unit for about 1/3 it’s retail cost.
Second is an Atlas SD24. I didn’t have to go scrounging for detail parts for this one. The mounting of the endrails was a bit problematic as they didn’t want to stay in place. A little super glue took care of that problem. I drilled a small hole in the top of the cab so I could miunt the horns there. The mounting holes for the ladders had to be drilled out. The ladders were mounted in place with super glue as were the visors. This unit was obtained for about 1/4 of it’s retail cost.

For those of you that frequent the coffee shop, I apologize for showing my trestle again. For those that haven’t, I’ve made quite a bit of progress playing God on my river valley. I haven’t mounted the trestle or weathered anything yet, but I’m moving along at a fairly good pace. The piers are the only thing secured so far. The river needs a substantial amount of work as well, but at least it’s not blue foam![:D] Here are a few progress pictures.

Nothing new for me, been too busy to work on the layout, so I’ll post an oldie.
Margaritaman love the trees. Did you build them or did you buy them. If bought who makes them, if made wanna share your secerets?[;)]
Here is what I got done this week, not much as we did a fair amout of flying this week. These are my hand built trees. Carved the trunk out of balsa and mixed burt sienna, raw sienna and umber to get the trunk color. The branches are made from some sort of fern material I got at pat catans. I plan on using woodland senics groud cover with pine cones.

The background trees were made using all methods, twisted wire, caspia fern, and cooler pads. From 15 years ago I had over 200 caspia pine trees, unfortunately they didn’t make the years of storage in a 130 degree attic. The majority of those wonderful foreground trees are Grand Central Gem items. Whether or not one approves of store bought trees, those things are the best I’ve ever seen, and fairly indestructible with their plastic molded branches. FWIW, much less expensive in quantity. Sorry, no website. I’ll work on that.
