WPF: OCT 8-11 (COLUMBUS DAY WEEKEND)

LOL Nice touch Jeff.

I like the witch!

I was busy with four turnouts for a friend. Here’re two of them.

Zak,

That photo is a real grabber. At first look my eyes are drawn to the locomotives, the two-track in the foreground and the line poles. Gave me one of those “real or model?” moments. It wasn’t until I looked directly at the backdrop that I saw it was painted. When I focus on the locomotives the backdrop has the right amount of soft focus. Nice!

Here’s my contribution. We visited the Chicago Museum of Science & Industry two weeks ago and got to see The Gret Train Stoiry exhibit. Here’s the link to some pictures:

Excellent work by Everyone!!!

This is a shot of some of the ‘implement train’ flat cars I’ve been working on. There are Athearn, Motorart, Wiking, Siku, & Norscott units on mostly Intermountian & MTH flats. I attached them to the cars with heavy liquid paintmask & latex mould making mediums, so they would be removable. Some come off quite easily when jarred, but I wanted to keep my future options open. In these pix I have not added the tie down chains or clamps, but they will be added later. I have also been working on some other tractors not in these shots, so more will come. Speaking of that, I wish I could get IH (Case/IH/Steiger) Quad Trac’s in HO! I like Green, but I like Red too!

Crandell,

You are correct, it was a Life Like kit. I just purchased 5 of them @$6.98 from Walthers; on sale. I have been selling them on Ebay to support my RR. The stairs are a little of a problem but I have been adding a 1x8 on the outside of all stair stringers to solidify it. Works nice but is a little of a pain.

Congratulations on getting up and running. You certainly a long way from Central VT, but your shed looks a lot like the one I go by each time I go into the city.

There was some movement on the prototype, but something happened in S Carolina (?) that seems to have canceled the order. Now gondolas loaded with granite chunks are sitting on any track that they can get them on.

Keep us posted.

Have fun,

Actually, I have a long term dream of creating a diorama of the entire Omaha Union/Burlington station complex. I’d need to kitbash two Union Station kits to build the Burlington Station to it’s proper size. I’d probably have to scratch build the Union Station which would be quite a challenge with its Art Deco design. Then I’d also need to scratch build the connecting concourse which was angled at the point where the 7 platforms of Union Station were connected to the 2 platforms of the Burlington Station. At it’s peak in the early 20th century, these two stations combined to be the fourth busiest passenger facility in the country as it served both north/south and east/west lines. Classic Trains recently showed a bird’s eye view of this vast complex.

This is all probably a pipe dream since I probably would not even attempt it until I run out of things to do on my operating layout, but it is fun to think about anyway.

Thanks Cowman. I’m sorry you switched from dairy to beef production, but I understand. No one local wants to do the work, and the price of milk has been criminal. Every time I see a bottle of water that costs more than a half gallon of milk…

I grew up on Roxbury Mountain, East Warren side. We used to head to Barre & Montpelier to go to Harry’s back in the day (big trip!) I’d love to do the whole quarry area and Montpelier Jct, but all I can really to is an approximation right now. I’m planning on doing a small cutting shed or two in Barre, and at least Allen Lumber in Montpelier.
