Anybody used spray silicone for a mold release for the rock castings? The grade you get from an auto supply house. I know about wet water and Pam.
Using silicone may be great for the mold release, but any silicone that gets into the plaster will have some real bad affects for staining and painting the castings.
I have no problems w/ using a misting of wet water in the mold prior to pouring the plaster. This also allows the plaster to find it’s way into all the fine detail. Repeated use of a mold and not cleaning it properly will cause troubles that no kind of mold release can solve.
I just use wet water and have had no problems with the casting sticking to the mold. I think silicon would tend to seal the surface of the casting and make staining difficult.
That is why I asked, thank you both. Wet water it is.
Yep, H2O and a few drops of soap works for me.
