Wyoming "Joint Line"

Was reading the Nov 2007 issue of Trains “Super railroad: the Joint Line”, page 10. Decided to look it up on Google Earth. Fascinating stuff. Started at Orin Wy and scrolled east and north. You can see train after train, all very, very long. Great stuff!

are you talking about the Powder River Basin line run by the UP and the BNSF?
if so, I will say this, one of the best hot-spots on my list(not number 1, which is my school, has the UP and Little Rock and Western)

I’ve spend a week there last summer (in the PRB that is, not Wyomingrailfan’s school).

It’s an absolute winner. Easy access to viewpoints, lots and lots and lots of trains coming from every which way. Also stake out at Donkey Creek Junction with the new yard and all, it’ll give you coal train action and other stuff too. I’ve even seen a Boeing hull going through Gillette, Wyo while driving to Donkey Creek Junction.

Minor drawback: I was eaten alive by tiny little flying thingies, little brownies I called them. Other than that: perfect place if you love trains and / or heavy equipment (stake out on the highway between Black Thunder and Jacobs Ranch mines, there’s a haul truck underpass there. Fascinating stuff!!!)
