Well I always heard about other people being in the right place at the right time and I guess today was my turn. My neighbor came to the door earlier this morning and said he was just at a yard sale and they had a bunch of HO RR stuff. He was asking 150.00 for the lot. So the wife and I got in the car and drove to the sale. At first I wasn’t very impressed. Mostly 15-20 year old stuff. Bunch of HO automobiles some loco’s. And I asked him how much and he said 150.00. I told him I didn’t think this little bit of old stuff was worth 150.00 and he said oh no every thing on the table behind you is RR stuff to and included. I turned around and saw a butt-load of RR stuff. One box of Loco’s most still in the original boxes unused. ONe box of cornerstone buildings unassembled in box. Two boxes of rolling stock. Maybe forty or so all told with 15 still brand new unassembled in the box. 13 pieces of 3’ flex track. Any way not to bore you I brought it home and had a blast going thru it. I can’t appreciate alot of it because I have only been MRR for about four years. One of the loco’s is as Model Power 4-6-2 RTR made in Yugoslavia and it says it puffs smoke?? I was able to go thru it and pick out the stuff I wanted. Alot of it was more modern era 50, 52 ft rolling stock. As I model the 50’s that all got put in the don’t want box.
So to cut this short I have about 15-`18 pieces of rolling stock. 4 or 5 still brand new unassembled in box. 9 loco’s - four of which I think are probably easy to convert to DCC and may work out of the box on DC. Can motors, flywheels etc. The others are way old with some odd looking motor encased in one end over the rear truck. Even though they appear new and not used. The grease is still blobed on the pivot points. An AHM loco Faribanks Morse. Looks good. 3 Athearn Loco’s SD-9, SD-45 and F-7 more modern with can motor. flywheels. New in box. The 4-6-2 looks pretty cool and new in the box. Two 2-6-2’s one beat up but the other is good use one for parts maybe.
Terry,I salute you for your generousity, I am sure someone will notify you.I have been modeling since 1972 and as you say old stuff,my newest was bought in 1986.One day when I decide to hang it up I will probably do the same as you are offering. BRAVO ZULU!!
Sounds like you hit the mother load!
The Athearn Gunderson Maxi-III is a 5-unit articulated double stack car - I have a couple of them and they’re impressive models when completed.
I’m 37, but feel like a teenager! LOL, great idea to get somebody started, my hats off to ya!
Glenn
Well so far I can’ t give this stuff away. The three Athearn BB loco’s are brand new and wouldn’t take much at all to get going on DC. Wire in a decoder and you got some nice loco’s. I didn’t mention but most of the Loco’s and rolling stock are either SP or UP. Well hopefully someone will take them off my hands. I asked him why so many things were still in the box and he said he was stock piling and never got around to doing anything with his layout. Never actually even put any track together. Bad for him good for me!

scuba t,
[wow] Commend your offer; talk about having a big heart. [tup] [tup] [8D]
Aren’t the bold parts of your post mutually exclusive?
Jon
Jon - yea your right. I have only been doing the railroad thing for four years and started with Digitrax so I sometimes forget the DC guys. Actually the loco’s should run on DC out of the box. I just returned an email to a young fellow who is no doubt very happy about now. So it has found a good home. Now I have to get off my butt and package it up. Just waiting for his reply.

I like your story scub, I’ll bet it felt like Christmas to you back when you were a kid. I think thats great giving the stuff you don’t want to some young person. I’ve done this in the past. I call it spreading the joy of MR.
You are a good ambassador for the hobby, EssTee. Way to go!

Ahhh, I was just about to ask. Darn you Josh.
You’re a good person Terry, helping someone start the hobby. I’m sure those b-b will go fast- i think Student of the big sky blue offered to take old Athearns. I’m not going to ask for them as i have a good start and i’m sure someone needs a loco more than me. Yard Sales RULE! maybe i’ll find something someday…
Good to hear you are passing on your good luck to someone else. Hope you have a quieter hurricane season next year!
John
Terry,
Glad to hear you found them a good home. I always think one good deed will return another. Once a unknown MRR helped me out on Ebay and I will never forget it. You did a good thing buddy.[bow]
Michael
