YES! We get the #4449! Actually they took her away. False alarm.

For the NRHS convention in August, which we are hosting, the SP #4449 will be making an appearance. I was a tad disapointed it was related at all to our area, but hey its a cool enough engine to make me not care.

The Daylight will be in Michigan in late July, so why not keep it over? Wonder where it will be in the meantime?

Perhaps it will

We should be so lucky!

UP, unfortunately, doesn’t allow foreign steam power, even from predecessor lines, to grace its rails.

On July 31st it moves from Durand MI to Chicago. On August 2nd, it makes the Chicago/Twin Cities run.

Matt and I are looking forward to seeing it it July.

On CPRS, CN, or BNSF?

Amtrak is one of the sponsors of the journey; so I assume, but do not know, it will take the route of the Empire Builder between the Twin Cities and Chicago – meaning the CP route. As they are passenger runs, they will need an Amtrak engine in the consist to provide the HEP.

Not neccessarily, dont they have that Daylight schemed F40PH?

[tup] Congrats, coborn35 and others. Most of the rest of us here in the east are supremely envious, I assure you. [sigh] Make the most of and enjoy it, as I’m sure you will !

Carl - That little anagram (or whatever it’s called) was pretty funny ! [(-D] Well done !

According to info on the Friends of the 261’s website (who are helping organize the trip), the 4449 is to go down the BNSF on July 18 between St. Paul and Chicago. The return from Chicago to St. Paul however will be the typical CP routing. It’ll travel from Chicago to Milwaukee on August 2nd, and Milwaukee to St. Paul on Aug. 3.

It’s interesting to see it’s going to Duluth as well. I’m still hoping they’ll confirm that the engine will make fall colors turns between STP and LaCrosse soon too, filling in for the 261s usual trips.

I wondered why the schedule showed it as ‘laying over’ in Minneapolis for a week…although it would make sense for it to take advantage of 261’s homebase for any maintenance that was needed.

Do you have a link to the schedule for when it’s going to / from Duluth, ticket availability etc.??

Not an anagram, but a scret code non the less.

I believe it is invite only, aka NRHS members only, as that is the reason it is coming to Duluth, for the convention.

It is BREAKING on the Newswire that 4449 WILL NOT BE COMING TO DULUTH Sorry Corburn she is NOT coming UP THERE.

After reading the latest, it sounds like they are negotiating via press release - trying to get public opinion to push dollars one way or the other.

“YES! We get the #4449!” Ummm… NO! You don’t get the #4449! [;)]
