the shadows behind the engines play havoc with my eyes! try some more overhead lighting
Okay, WHo else is watching these Vids and counting the chuffs per revolution?
LOL!
Well Done!
Chris
Cool! David, what type camera do you use and how do you get the images from it to your computer? Via usb port?
Jarrell
Nice constructive reply! Thanks for your contribution to these forums and for making my morning. I forgot to lable this thread “Yet ANOTHER professional quality video i made…”
The video wasnt about the lighting/ quality, but rather about sound.
David
I use an old JVC digital video camera (about 4-5 years old), and it connects to my computer with firewire. It predates usb 2.0 by a few years.
David
The videos show that steam sound has some distance to go in order to reproduce realistic synchronized sound. The BLI engine seemed to have the best tone, but there are a lot of variables between the recorder and my ears. The lack of synchronization throws the videos way off for me. If I were you. I start doing some scenery and wait until they get the bugs worked out with the steam sound. At the very least do some scenery. It’s a lot more rewarding and pretty easy too.
looks nice
What bugs? Really…you rivit counters are really starting to ruin the hobby …“If I were you. I start doing some scenery and wait until they get the bugs worked out with the steam sound”…If I were YOU I would just apreciate the fact that I wanted to share what I have done, not get a lecture on what I SHOULD be doing with my time. How about you post some of YOUR work so I can make you feel small as well?!? How dare you tell me what is “much more rewarding” in MY hobby. People like you need to step off of your High Horse and get a life.
Cheers…you troll
David
And another thing Neutrino…is people like you that keep people like me from shareing my work and ideas…without people like ME these forums get pretty dull…lets see you cram a decoder with sound into a tiny locomotive…show us your amazing work.
David
David, I have found the sounds between the two decoders (the topic of this thread) to be quite distinctive. I have a Tsunami in an IHC Mike, and a light steam in a Heritage 0-6-0. The light steam is a bit tinny for my ears, and the smallness of the model must have something to do with that. I find the whistles to be “unfamiliar.” However, the medium steam works well for me.
As for the QSI, they got much of it right, although I cannot say that the whistles are accurate…I have no way of knowing. I am happy that they are offering to update the chips to include BEMF…finally. It is the one serious drawback to my otherwise fine BLI products…they all want to take off like jackrabbits, even with CV’s 2,3, and 4 set for realistic levels. YOu can dial in a speed, say 15, and wait for the loco to actually move. It will sit for a while, and you can actually hear the decoder prompting the motor to turn, but with improper pulses. Then, the loco lurches off after several long seconds.
Thanks for the video.

HEY, DAVID!!!
I looked at it early this morning and was fascinated with the different sounds. I came home this afternoon to watch again on my home system where I can set the sound to a decent level, and discovered the link was removed!
Don’t let the critcal ones get in the way - my initial impression was that your video is a great comparison of different sound chips. Please put it back up - I’m sure most of us really appreciate what you did, and I’m certain that I, for one, do!
I put the link back up
Very Nice Video,
Especially Enjoyed the Streamlined Hudson.
James
That would be the part where the sounds don’t match the movement of the locomotive. And it’s not by a small factor either. Yea, it gets faster as the engine gets faster etcetera, but you should watch some film of real steam in action and you’ll see what I mean.
Rivet is spelled incorrectly and the last ellipsis should only have three periods, not four.
You’re too tense man. It wasn’t a lecture, just a suggestion. Just think how all your Canuck trains would look running on some ballasted track with a little bit of good old lichen spread around, and maybe a building or two?
That made you feel small? Yikes! I hope you aren’t married! I have posted my work. You just need to look at my profile and look at my previous posts.
I thought it was my hobby too? Darn! Dissapointed again. This time you’re right about the horse thing though. The last time I “stepped up off my High Horse” (Take a note here… AA doesn’t work on horses.) I slipped and banged my head and I’ve had no life and been voicing my opinion ever since.
I like the commentary! Great sounding locos, and thanks for sharing.
Jeremy
It WAS a lecture, and your obvious condencending attitude shines with your origional post. What if I am happy with my plywood central? Dont I have the right to be?
For you information…it is possible to set up the tsunami to rate
I thought the movie was GREAT David, regardless what other people think. I could never cram sound into an 0-6-0, you have true intuition!
Thank you for the video and sound comparison! It is interresting to hear different sound systems in the same setting. The tsunami to me sounds clearer and I belive it does have more sounds being produced at the same time. When I started in model railroading back in the early 60’s sound from a model locomotive was a dream that seemed impossible at the time , now look what we have. Is it perfect? No! But it is a whole lot better than we had! Thanks again and keep on sharing! Jim
great video, i enjoyed the sound your making me want a sound equipped loco now…[8D]
thanks for sharing [:)]
