I know there are some experienced train sim people here. I’ve asked several times at the train sim forums but to no avail. Ok my question. I have Paint Shop and MTST. I’m wanting to make my own mix of locos and cars but can’t seem to be able to get the “Consist Editor” in Paint Shop to open. I’ve tried reinstalling it several times and have downloaded all of the patches I can find. Any advice on this? I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Jeremy
You could just paint the units with Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop (MS Paint would work also).
I don’t understand the connection between Paint Shop and the Consist Editor. You can access the Activity Editor , where you do your consist making, through the MSTS tools icon that should have been installed when you installed MSTS. You really should get some guidance before you get too involved with making consists. As with many aspects of MSTS, it can be a real headache, especially if you want to undo it. Try the steam4me site for some help. For painting, you may want to aquire a tool like TGATool from Martin Wright. It’ll help you with MSTS specific texture files. Whatever happens with your MSTS activities, hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.

Photoshop didnt work for me becuase it only saves things as .pdd and my MakeAce.exe file wouldnt convert it? so i guess ill just stick with using downloaded skins from train-sim.com

I paint my MSTS locos using MS paint.
I’ve been using Photoshop for some time, too. After I got v7.0, I couldn’t save a tga with an alpha. I put their update in, which cured that problem, then the bitmaps made for Flight Simulator would cra***hat program. The answer, sort of, was to convert all the Photoshop bitmaps using DXTbmp or Imagetool. At least the tga thing still works.

Actually all I am wanting to do is make new consists. Like putting 4 diesels and a different mix of cars. The Consist Editor is in Paint Shop but I can’t access it. I’m not wanting to paint anything yet, I’m just looking to make different mixes of cars and locos. Any thoughts?

How did the consist editor get into Paintshop? It should be in Activity Editor in the Train Simulator Editor & Tools program. I dont know why it wouldve been installed in a completely different program with no affiliation to TrainSim.
tomnoy3 is right. There should be an icon on your desktop labeled Train Simulator Editor & Tools. It looks just like the Train Sim icon except for the label. Open it and go to the Activities Editor. Creating an activity or consist requires that you follow a fairly ritualistic protocol. If you don’t, you can create a monster rather than a consist. There is no direct link or “Create Consist” button, so it’s not immediatly obvious. I strongly recommend you see the steam4me site and check out their Consist Building tutorial. If you don’t see the icon, maybe your install didn’t go well.
