Well I finally did it. Have been a trainguy all of my life, and I finally joined the TCA. A buddy of mine who is aslo a member but never been to York wiil be out there on Friday the week of the show. As old newbies lol is there anything we should know/
2 very important things.
Wear the most comfortable shoes you have.
Take lot’s O cash. Dealers will take CCs some sellers will take checks but most deal strickly with cash. There is an ATM but many times it runs out of money so don’t rely on it for cash, take it with you.
Empty all bank accounts.
Rent the largest ryder/U-Haul truck you can, to bring back all your purchases.
lol I’ve been told you can find just about anything your looking for, for a price. Of course i have things on my wish list, but I’m going there to have fun.
You see I already told the wife, if we ever hit the lottery, I’m going to renew my CDL and rent a tractor trailer to goto York, and will arive by Wednesday afternoon, to make sure I’m there in time for opening.
All of the above is true. If you want to see everything plan on 2 days to walk the halls. As with all train shows if you see something you want get it. It’ll probably be gone when you come back. You may not find everything but you could find anything. Tentatively CTT forum guys meet at the CTT booth at 1PM Friday. Stop by the Coffee Pot and join us.
My advice in this day and age is that one should not overpay for an item. If the seller is not willing to deal on the price to a level you feel comfortable with, walk away. Some of the dealers at York still have their items priced as if it is 1999.
Sound advice. I’ve never been to York, but that’s what I do at train shows, antique shows, militaria shows and gun shows. When you come right down to it it’s only a toy, it won’t kill you if you don’t get it.
Although the only thing I seem to get at gun shows now are heart attacks! My God, the prices on those things now!
Probably the reason I got into trains…
Sounds like it’s going to be a great day. Thanks to all for the imput. And I will try to stop by and join everyone for coffee Friday,
Won’t see me at coffee. The Ives Society meets at the same time and is much more interesting than coffee.
The Coffee Pot is a monthly thread on this forum.
The regulars who post on those threads meet on Friday at York at 1pm at the CTT Booth for a group photo, talk, etc. It is a good time and takes a little time from your trip. All are welcome. [:)]
First and foremost —> the ARROWS. Always obey the ARROWS.
And display your badge - I got stopped for both offenses the 1st time I went.
trainguy,
I will be there in the Orange Hall in the TW Trainworx booth, JJ 11. Stop by and say HI!
I am in York now. I have met up with several other collectors. It will be my first York. I am looking forward to meeting folks I have only communicated with online.
Northwoods Flyer
Got back from hunt late. All I saw was does and more does. Where the girls are, the guys will come. Glad to see deer.
Just got back from taking another camper to the farm. Plenty of sleeping room now.
Busy week ahead.
Later.
Fife - Arrows! What arrows?
Hi Everyone,
I will be representing CTT at our booth in the Orange Hall next to MTH. I will look forward to seeing and talking with those of you who are attending. Travel safely to and from York, have a wonderful time, and come back having made a new friend or two.
See you soon,

I was wandering around last fall, then looked down and saw the arrows. Thankfully, I got back on track before I got yelled at.
One of the halls didn’t have arrows, yet there was a guy walking up and down the aisles yelling at everyone going the other way. I kept staring at the floor, wondering if I was going crazy. I think it was him.
Will miss seeing you guys at the CTT booth (playing real trains in the Alleghanies). Always wanted to meet Northwoods Flyer in person.
Y’all have fun.
