Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Shay 15 turns 100

I found this railroad only because I drove past it en-route to Yosemite with some colleagues circa 2004. After a 10 mile hike in the park that resulted in a mildly injured knee, we agreed that a train ride would be a pleasant way to decompress. The ticket price was fair, the ride through the forest was peaceful, and the engine put on a great show hauling the train back upgrade after a break at the far end of the reconstructed line. The track isn’t all that long, but it was a pleasant experience.

I had a wonderful ride on this railroad also.

Is this engine identical to West Side shay number 9, which was at the Midwest Central in Mt. Pleasant, IA and now operates on the Georgetown Loop? If so, is number 9 nearing its 100th birthday also.

Also, Georgetown Loop used to have 2 other shays, also West Side I think. Does anyone know what happened to them?

West Side Shay #9 was similar to but later built and heavier than #15. At least one of the Georgetown Loop ex-WS Shays is now at the Colorado Railroad Museum.
