As some may have surmised, we have determined to suspend our importing activity
At this time, we can not with certainty tell you that any of the models that we have announced, either through print media or this web site, will ever be imported by Challenger. Conversely, we can not with certainty tell you that there will be no further Challenger products.

That’s really not that bad if it’s for all 3 units. The A unit you showed is darn good looking. I’ve seen 3 unit plastics go for more.

The model pictured in the OP is no where near the quality of those compared from the Uncle Dave’s site. The one in the OP is a crude model that lacks the detail of todays brass imports. Just because it is brass does not make it valuable.
to much for me…
That’s the other thing I wanted to say but didn’t - the Proto2000 E units have more detail. But then, I’m not a collector - I want something that looks decent and runs, and run it will, I don’t have any shelf queens in my collection. Apart from a couple of older AHM locos that have a certain sentimental value. If it weren’t for the deep flanges they’d get decoders and be run though.

it’s realy the same model
with a fancy paint job
what detail are you talking abought
if enything th op has more detail
true it has a wire hanging out but thats only cuz i’m working on it (just got it a few days ago)
imoa
The ones you pictured against yours have interiors, glazing, custom/factory paint, nicer detailing, see through grills and fans, and they are new. I would imagine they run out the box as well. It appears they have sprung trucks with much nicer truck detail as well. And what is to be said for the drives?

I tried to argue this point with him a few days ago about the same locomotives. You can talk till you’re blue in the face, and he still won’t get/understand it.

Sorry for my confusion…Are you referring to the locomotive on the link? Or the units that you keep showing on page one? No offense, but are you playing games with us? Your input is valuable but your comment above

Anyway, if you’re referring to the brass E8 in the link, it looks like she’s been thru a long battle. Probably in the $500 range when new. Used brass units like these don’t fetch a high price anymore if…
- The body is in rough shape…
- The unit is equipped with an older, noisy drive…
- If there are nicely detailed plastic version(s) of the same type of locomotive…
- The body detail itself is inferior to the plastic version of the brass unit.
Remember, when the highly detailed plastic locomotives hit the HO and N markets back in the early 90s, the used brass units started fetching less money for sellers. Exception would be rare units, or locomotives that had not been produced in plastic. Or the highly detailed HO and N brass units produced in the 90s. Even then deals could be found. A good friend of mine snagged a rare HO brass Amtrak SDP40f on Ebay, in good shape, for about $100…a super bargain! He’s repowering it with a Mashima motor…
Many of the brass units from the 1970s and early 80s are what’s hitting Ebay. This old war horse looks like one of those units. Consider that the Pennsy E8 is available in plastic from BLI and LIfe LIke P2K. So chances are VERY LIKELY that this brass unit would not be high on many Pennsy modeler’s priority lists. If you look carefully, the number boards would have to be cut out and the trucks need detailing parts just to be comparable in appearance to a P2K or BLI unit.!
Top it off, the BLI E8 is equipped with an impressive sound system. So fo
