You Don't See This Every Day

I caught this awesome light engine move on Saturday here in eastern PA with a WC SD45u leading the NS Maersk Sealand SD40-2 (NS 3329)! The plus was that they were running long hood foward!

Railfans screech to a halt and jump madly out of their cars to snap pictures while regular motorists complain about the delay and try to figure out if they can beat the engines to the crossing…

NICE CATCH!!

What’s so great about that. I see WCs all the time and I have seen a BNSF local with a GP15-1 and GP38-2 running longhood forward.

Out here it’s rare. Also, the second unit is the only one in that scheme.

Another thing I find interesting is that the WC unit has no ditch lights; I thought those were required on the lead locomotive.

Don’t need ditch lights if that end never actually leads. (I know, it’s leading now, but IIRC, there are exceptions to the rule that cover this.) This being a light hop, I’d bet the Maersk loco will be in the lead when they pull out with a train.

Pretty neat catch…dont see the second unit down in the swamp often, and never have a camera when I do…
Good deal…

Sweet! Thanks for sharing.

See if you lived over here in the great state of Pennsylvania on the eastern side, espeacially southeastern side of PA, seeing a WC unit and a Maersk Sealand unit, is something we Pennsylvanians don’t get to see eveyday. The main thing that comes around eastern PA is a whole bunch of GE widenosed units, and a couple of EMD standard cab units, I’ve got to say that I’ve never ever seen high horsepower EMD’s other than SD50s or SD40-2 over here.

Get your pics of the WC 45’s ASAP, by the end of the year, they might be going away. CN has new locomotives on order to replace the WC 45’s.

Might you be mean Joe Green?

I thought it was a great photo and a great catch.

COOL!!!

I don’t see that except the local CSX making deliveries.

Would dancing bears and elephants hanging off the units be better???[(-D][(-D][(-D][:-,][#dots][#dots][#dots] ------GREAT PICTURES!!![tup]

Wow! That’s what I call getting lucky[:D][8D]!

Hi, Brian here, this is my first post on this forum. I have pictures of a similar situation that I observed here in Cedar Rapids back in mid-April, only these engines were pulling cars.
