Take a look at the general discussion, Wed. afternoon and at least 4 subjects that have absolutely nothing to do with garden railroads![V][V]
Yes, I’m just as bad; my thoughts also wander! I don’t really object when a subject wanders and then finds it’s way back to the original subject matter, but to have a number of subjects on a garden rr forum that have nothing to do with the garden rr??? [:0][:0]
Perhaps those subjects should be carried on some other more general forum, or we should police ourselves to trying to keep non subject matter on the one header so that those who really aren’t interested in the BS sessions can just skip over it! That’s getting a bit hard to do with so many non rr subjects on the board![][D)][oX)]
Well, this reminds me of club newsletters.
If nobody submits anything, it can’t get printed.
If nobody wants to talk about trains, then we don’t talk about trains.
If we can’t enter into friendly banter without fear of offending the self-proclaimed PC Police, I don’t need to participate at all.
OK ready for a shock ?? There are a lot of non trains subjects. I agree, and it would be silly not to. But I see a lot of folks with different backgrounds learning and finding common ground. We all hate gas prices, and utilities prices, we all have projects to do around the house, just not as big as Matt, and we all drink something. It has been really relaxed lately, and I feel I have gotten to know some of the folks on here better.
I showed my only G train in my pics, I can’t run it outdoors, as we are in anti flood mode, everything is picked up where it floods, and the patio is empty in case of over flow. We had the waterfall going last night off the patio, but it wasn’t 6 feet across this time. Only about 30 inches. Rain came down at 1.25 " per hour according to radar report.
I am running the HO track in the garage, cab forward is looking very cool. (See something about trains)
With snow in snow country, and rain in sunny country, I think right now garden railroading is falling by the wayside until better weather.
It looks like many days of non trains for most of us.
Captain Bob
I agree with you whole heartedly. My argument has nothing to do with political correctness. It has to do with the subject. How much stuff about powdery doughnuts and various types of nausious drinks can a body stand?
Bob
Well, folks, this thread is no better.
Here you have 7 posts on a non-train-related subject.
Now that the PC Police representative has departed, who is willing to take over the position and whip this board into line?
Dont like it -dont read it, skipit and move on to the next one.
What I find hard to fathom is that while some readers complain about the very existance of the the coffe shop/gas price/off topic threads being on the forum, these same readers seam to have a very hard time NOT reading them? Is it like a tabloid newspaper sitting on the table in the waiting room promising titilating photos inside, ya just cant put it down can ya?[;)][:P]
I come here to talk trains as well, however I like to know to whom I am talking trains with, meaning who they are, what they do, not just Mr. X who has 300 ft of mainline likes deisels etc.
Maybe in the future any post that is not train related , put ( Not trains) next to your subject as to not Offend anyone, those who are here for just the trains and have no intrest in the other people can pass it over and those who are interested in to whom they talk to through post can view it and learn something about their fellow Garden/large scale person.[soapbox]
I am a friend of Troys and i agree with the basis of what he has to say but we all talk about things to do with our general life and that is very good; as learning about each other should breed tolerance and understanding; and the world could well do with more of that.
However I do support the argument that if you don’t like it, skip it; and i think a great young man like Troy should observe that. I do understand that some one has really got under his skin and in many peoples minds including mine he is well justified.
However a lot of the subjects and comments made on this column to my mind are so inappropriate; I wonder if the commentors have any knowledge of Garden Railways at all: so guess what, i just skip it.
I also find that many really griity sunjects get virtually ignored and other quite pointless ones get a lot of comment; and no offence Brian but what about that bit about your poor old rabbit.
So its a bit like eating, eat what you want to eat and leave the Brussel Sprouts.
I think I am the oldest person contributing to this column, so I must sooner or later show some wisdom. I was born 23 December 1936 and i have eleven grandchildren can anyone beat that.
What a great night to run trains, heheheh, i invited a concrete contractor over and he said ,“won’t it be to dark to run trains”? I just laughed and said ,“NO, They all have head lights”!!
But he never showed.
Man, I foget the basics sometimes.
What’s needed is a PC-PC (PoliticallyCorrect-PoliceCommittee). Things will be looking up in no time![;)][}:)][:D][:D]
Of course, as you know, there is no quicker way to get things ground to a halt than appointing a committee. Which then leaves those who like to discuss “whatever” to do so, while the PC-PC decides what constitutes an infraction, contravention, misdemeanor etc. etc.
What I was trying to say was not that I don’t read or participate, but shouldn’ t we try to limit the off topic stuff to the one header, or an off topic section of the forum?
I, too, very much enjoy learning more about you all; and I think I’ve stated that in the past.
I also have participated in the gas price thing and others. I am guilty of digressing from the subject in seeing where someone is from and asking where that is, or remarking on something that some statement someone has made has jogged a thought or question in my mind.! One also relates one’s life experiances into asking and answering questions.
Yes, sometimes it is indeed difficult to keep the subject matter pure to the garden rr subject, but when we know what we are going to say has nothing to do with garden rr, shouldn’t we try to keep it in a corner by itself???
Like was said before, if you don’t want to read it, skip it! My question and thought is to keep it where those who care about that will know what to skip!
Perhaps we should have a committee of die hard garden railroaders and put every topic before them and they can decide whether it gets posted and under what title. They could then pick the forum members who can answer/add to that topic and if they step out of line or somebody joins in without orders then they will be sent somewhere where they can’t interfere. Bugger me, wasn’t this done somewhere in Europe last century.
Get a grip guys, read it if you want, don’t if you don’t want. We’ve been here before, let’s not go there again.
Cheers,
Kim
