They were trying to adapt the double stack concept to other types of freight cars.
Actually the SPRR was the leader in double stack innovation in case you are unaware. They were doing it for Sealand before APL came along with the UPRR & made it a big deal[:o)][:p][:)]

That’s what I call one hell of a Train wreck. Ya but the funny part of it is…The Hopper is resting on top of the Locomotive. Allan.
It puts a whole new meaning to “double stack”.
I wonder if anyone will ever get video of something like that. With all the cameras that are out there now, it will probably happen someday.

Man, that looks like one heck of a tragedy. Although, it looks like there wasn’t any damage.
On the contrary, the loco’s didnt derail, and only the two or 4 grain cars had serious damage.
The hoppers got tired, they’re just taking a nap!
Looks to me like the derailment was on the track behind the two locos. The two covered hoppers look to be mostly sitting on other wreckage hidden behind the locos.
Uh-oh! [:O]
Hmmmm excess height plates required. Maybe they should have bought more domestic containers and wellcars instead.
Now that’s a hump yard!!![swg][(-D][(-D]
Looks like they ran out of space in the yard, and had to start a second row[;)]!
Actually, i don’t think any derailment was ever caught on tape… Other than that flat car with steel that tipped over, but it righted itself… ANd the CSX unit that went in the drink after a mud slide, but the derailment already happend…
Anyone know if one was caught on tape? links?

Joyous choruses sing aloud, my hundredth post. Hol-eee Cow.
I would really like to know how THAT one happened…
Maybe that’s why they call them hoppers?
That was funny scott, i am actually laughing out loud all by myself with no one around, and yeah, how did they mannage to do that.
The old Trainmaster at Gemco, John Matlean, would term this one as “AW SH__!!!”…
