Your Friends?????

Thats the title of a 4 page thread on Model Railroader forum. Its the red writing on the right side. Kind of interesting, its locked now. We are lucky, MR is slower.

I never say anything about my model railroading hobby on Facebook or any other valuables in my house.

It´s an old threat, that drifted off-topic, that´s why it was locked.

Seems like a lot of the threads on the other forum get hi-jacked and heads off in an entirely different direction sometimes resulting in a flaming war.

Seayakbill - You noticed that too [#dots] [;)]

Dennis,

Your use of multiple question marks, sums it up!

Some, not all, are rude, especially if a question is not for the other forums.

In the immortal words of comedian Eddie Lawrence (The Old Philosopher), as infamous jungle explorer Mo Gambo, “You never know who your friends are.”

Life itself is risky, anything can happen no matter what precautions we take. I prefer to not live in fear. The pros want what I’ve got they’ll take it, no matter the alarms and guns I may have.

I sleep well anyway.

Me too, especially with some of Samuel Colt’s craftmanship in my nightstand.

Hi Guys,

An MRR carpetbagger here.

I have to take the blame for reviving that thread which first surfaced in August 2010 and then would have died a natural death not long after. However, a few days ago, I was using the Search function to find something and came across that thread. I did something that I never do, and I hate when others do it, I revived the thread.

The original purpose of the thread was intended to gain an understanding of the Your Friends feature of the then newly revised forum format. Nothing more than that, and it was a most civil discussion. I revived the thread very light heartedly and the discussion proceeded entirely in that manner. We all had a lot of fun around the Your Friends feature.

As Sir Madog indicated earlier in this thread, it was locked because the discussion was frivolous. Nothing at all occurred to even remotely resemble a flame war.

As far as flame wars go, I have been a member of the forum for over 7 years now, and flame wars are extremely rare. Threads get locked there more often than here, but that is because they drift off topic and get worn out, not because of flame wars.

You guys have an advantage on this forum. You mostly collect Lionel, you seem to know each other better, you exchange small talk on the Coffee Pot, you meet one another at train fests. All of that is good and leads to a more homogenous group.

The MRR forum is a much more diverse one, mostly US but also Canadian, European, Australian and others. Most of us have nothing in common but our layouts and even there the scales vary from HO, N, and some others.

But both the MRR and the CTT forum are loaded with nice guys and gals.&nbs

This reminds me of a story I heard where some guy went to a party and started bragging about his complete collection of original Elvis Presley LPs he had. His collection disappeared soon after.

Some threads inadvertently invite off topic self destruction.by being obtuse Sort of like the self destruct tape recorder in Mission Impossible.Sometimes you can see it coming." This thread will self destruct in ten seconds" Sort of a opinion on a opinion not having to do directly with toy trains. Sometimes I think they are locked to protect some from themselves. “You will shoot your eye out” Bang, ouch.

If someone stole my trains…well some days I think I would pay someone to do this. It would be a good rationale to buy more toy trains. The hunter gatherer thing.is the bane of my existence in this hobby.
