Your G-Scale Locomotive: An easy guide to care and maintenance

I don’t know if this engine is covered in the book. It is the Bachmann Big Hauler Davenport 0-4-0 side rod.engine. We ran the engine on our club layout at the York Large Scale Train Show two weeks ago. It started out okay but as the day wore on it ran rough and eventually quit. It was suggested that maybe the wheels wre misgauged. The track, brass rail, was cleaned repeatedly. The engine was cleaned and lubed to no avail. I took it apart and found that the spring mechinisem that places the pick-up wheel against the backside of the drivers was not making full contact all the time.I corrected the problem by placing a piece of .02 styrene behind the housing that holds the spring and contact wheel and the metal frame that holds tha gears and axles. So far it seams to have corrected the problem.
