So CSX is going to have a demonstration team? Gonna change train shows forever… And from the right approaching just below the treeline, the Blue Chessies…led by an AC4400, they are in the standard 4 unit MU formation…coming from the left, the opposing solo…he’s a single SD40-2, westbound to Meridian, Mississippi with a general freight. …
In a single word…it SUCKS.
The shades of Blue and Yellow are both wrong, obviously picked out by someone who failed the SHC test and has no sense of style.
The previous Blue, Yellow and Gray is the BEST of the many color schemes that CSX has tried over the years.
I agree, the new scheme looks better, the old grey scheme reminded me of SP’s GrimeMaster grey paint scheme. The new looks more like a small hommage to Santa Fe’s Blue & Yellow scheme. So I like![:D]
I like it ok. Kind of reminds me of the C&O/B&O blue before the Chessie System. But what do I know, heck, I liked Western Maryland’s black before the red and white of the late 60’s. I still would like to see a diesel painted into an early scheme of all of the roads that make up CSX. Imagine a Western Maryland or New York Central SD70MAC.

I agree with Nora, I like it better then the paint cheme with the gray on it.

Thanks for your opinions everyone! Certainly looks like we have two teams here - one for the new scheme, and one for the old. Who knows…it may change again sometime…
Interesting comments from tree68 and locomutt about it being a throw back to C&O.
It all helps me get a good idea how it is.

After looking at the photo Nora provided, is this what B&O or C&O would have looked like had they had Dash 9s? I’d say I like the new scheme better than the all gray scheme they once tried.
Locomutt you hit on something interesting.
CSX’s new paint scheme is also referred to as “Throwback to C&O” or C&O Wannabe. Blue Angel does sound cool as the blue is similar to the precision Navy team’s jets.
While this scheme is “O.K” I prefer the previous scheme. It was “Snappier” and more “attention getting”. [tup]
According to the CSX news archives, this scheme came about because a group of employees wanted CSX to have a fresh new image connoting renewed quality and service.
[%-)]I found this rather hard to swallow! Why? The previous scheme was implemented in 1987, it’s not that old! (Look how long Santa Fe kept the Warbonnet!) CSX’s previous paint scheme was designed as an attention getter, with the yellow nose and stripe for safety. A large area of dark blue does not command a lot of attention, especially at nightt! The “creamy” yellow doesn’t stand out like the previous Seaboard Coast Line yellow CSX was using.
This looks like more of an attempt to cut paint refinishng costs, clear and simple. I hope that they used Industrial Imron paint as the gloss can take a lot of punishment .[:)]
AntonioFP45 I think you’re onto something!
Is the new paint scheme a sign of hard times ahead for CSX? Maybe “Dark Future” isn’t such a bad name…
The new paint is better than the current. But ever since Chessie changed from its three color scheme, it’s all been ot so good.
Well, I like it - rthe gray seems too fussy for my taste - however, as my freinds on the net have reported the railroads are not about pretty colours and pleasing railfans. The big question is - Is it cheaper and does it protect the valuable equipment from rust whilst being recognisable as CSX.
Whatever,[:)] I like it
Blue looks better to me. I don’t care much for anything painted grey: Too depressing.
Besides, BLUE is my FAVORITE color[8D] (GO BIG BLUE: University of Kentucky Basketball all the way)

I loved the paint scheme on the Conrail 70 and 80 Macs. Unfortunately CSX is repainting the 80macs. 801 is in "bright future. 0804,800, 808, and 812 are in dark future/blue angel/whatever you call it.

If you mean the one that has a mostly white front, I love that one too. On Wednesday I saw four of the SD80MACs coming into the yard all together (no train just engines). I see one or two of them there every now and again but have never seen 4 at once before, and I can spot them a mile away with all the blue and white!

It’s ok. Looks like the C+O.
I do like the old scheme better.
It looks cool CSX has outdone themselves again but the old CHESSIE scheme was much better[:)]
I always felt that the Chessie paint was a vary 70’s scheme, but after looking at some slides of my Dads from Pre-CSX (1979 - 1980 era) in Sand Patch and Paw Paw, WV ( You know there arre two Paw Paw, WV no joke[?]) The paint scheme isnt that bad, sorta like it[;)]
