Z-1000 & PS2. Protected?

I’ve been reading many, many posts on transformer/train fusing and protection methods. I’m finding there are so many opinions and suggestions that it’s a little overwhelming to know what’s really, really needed.

Based on opinions I received from an earlier post, about using a 1033 transformer with a new PS2 MTH Diesel (Burlington Northern GP-30), I decided to use the 1033 for accessories and bought a new Z-1000 transformer. I was grateful for the responses I got to the earlier post and I’m having a great time with my new loco but I’m still a little concerned that my expensive new toy is somehow at risk because I haven’t installed any fuses, circuit breakers, diodes, etc. So, can anybody tell me, is my train safe, or do I need to take further precautionary measures?

The circuit breaker on your z1000 is fine. The only other thing I would suggest is to install a 36 volt bi directional zener diode across the leads to protect the electronics from voltage spikes. You can buy these from Mouser for about a dollar each. Voltage spikes over time can damage some modern engine electronics.
