Computer programmer by day and model railroader by night. Railroad of choice is the Gainesville Midland, which gained mild fame as one of steam’s last holdouts in 1959. I discovered this little line when I moved to Georgia in the mid 1990’s and have been hooked ever since. My current HO scale layout is an attempt to capture the “flavor” of the Midland’s mainline during the 1950’s (I don’t feel the need to tighten the date to a particular month or even year). I operate a few SAL diesels to help out the steamers when I have a heavy schedule…well, that means when I feel like it! I have been railroading since the very early 80’s, when I picked up a copy of MR with coverage of John Allen’s G&D. (Is that December of 1979 or 1980?) I love small to mid-sized steam on a small shortline. The GM fits me perfectly.
