Roger S. Gilbert is a Native American artist and rail historian, who lives in San Diego. His interest in trains and railroading began at an early age when he was exposed to them from his father. This included visits to the local roundhouse with rides on some of the locomotives. His first painting of a train was at about the age of 7 or 8 at which time he won an scholastic award for a watercolor painting of an elevated train in New York. From that time on he has continued to receive awards through out his career. Roger is also a graduate of the Railway Educational institute of Omaha and devotes a good deal of his time to railroad related matters. Other accomplishments are in the field of music as a jazz drummer of some note in the Southern California area. And in the field of Aviation, in which he holds a commercial pilots license and flight instructors certificate.
