0-6-0 motor wanted in HO or OO

Please help i’m looking for a motor and wheels set that i can do up an old wind up that my grandfather gave me when i was 5 and because the wind up patr doesen’t work anymore i want it to be used instead of sitting on the shelf colecting dust any idears where i can look?? The only hobby shop wants to sell me the parts from a brand new train and keep the body!!

By the time you get a new motor and wheel set (and the correct chassis to put them together) you are looking at a new train less the body… You might approach it from the point of view of keeping the body from the old wind-up and having new “guts”. Since you are not picky about the body, you might try eBay or the used section of your local shop. If you want to go new, I would recommend the P2K 0-6-0 - very smooth quiet runner. There are other cheaper locos too - some in kit form, but I do not know too much about them.

Just one other thought - any chance that a watch or clock repair shop could do repairs?

Andrew

The Bachmann 0-6-0 ( also made as a 2-6-0, 2-6-2 and 4-6-0) have a good mechanism. The more recent Spectrum 0-6-0T is even better and on par with the P2K.

Other sources include Mantua/Tyco 0-6-0T, 0-6-0 and 2-6-2. MDC 0-6-0.

Thanks Andrew and
Nigel

You don’t say but if you are mechanically inclined look at the Northwest Short Line line of replacement motors and gear systems. A specific email to them will get you some advice as well as a suggested list of what you need to do the job.

thank for the advice My girlfrends mother who is 78yo and knows nothing about MR but knew that i was after a motor and wheels (and in her words needed 6 of them) was nice enough to buy one of the Bachmann 0-6-0 lol

all I can say is what an inlaw I have huh!
