10 tips for better O gauge track
I am building my first large layout and I really enjoyed reading these comments. It has given me good ideas and sound advise.
Thanks
Looking back, these are things I should have done. I have been working on my first permanent layout for over four years now and really regret not laying foam sub-roadbed beneath the FasTrack.
What is the best height for a layout?
I am getting lots of good tips for my 1st layout just reading all the info listed in CCT. I have lots of artistic talent but still am not too up to date and all the ideas I find here in the forum of CCT is jus’ mahvelous!
Thanks to all! Clint
i’m working on my sons first layout ; 8x8 ( my first o guage ) . he is 5 1/2 and having a blast while i hook up things that activate !!! we are using the fastrack system and i put green felt over the platform ; it makes a big difference for sound !!! we have 3 trains running and hope to add 1 more , but i cant hear them in the next room ( except for the whistles !! ) i have been getting alot of info from your website . thank you and keep up the good work !!!
I used a cheaper “homasote”-type insulation board from Loew’s (much cheaper than Homasote 440) laid over 7/16 OSB. Tried FasTrack, way too noisy. Stayed with tubular O gauge, trains run very quiet with nothing else; a thin insulation pad makes it a bit more quiet. Straight sections of 40" reduces “click-clack” even further. But having trouble finding a good modern transformer. Lionel and MTH are disappointing.
Great article
