Hey…I recently bought a 2466WX whistle tender and while cleaning it and puting it back together i noticed that on the brush plate assembly the grease retainer (WS-53) does not have a wick in it. Is there supposed to be a wick inside this piece or not or do you just pack it with grease??? Thanks
You should have a wick in there just touching the shaft to keep oil on the armature, and to keep oil from running out of the retainer and making a mess.

I have two of the 2466WX tenders, and neither of them have an oil wick in the retainer. The only tenders that I have seen oil wicks in are 2671W, 2671WX, and 2046W. when I service a 2466WX, I just put a drop of oil where the shaft comes through the brushplate.
The older, three hole oblong brush plates do have a “grease retainer” that Lionel recommended lubricant - use the Green Grease or Lucas Red ‘N’ Tacky #2 instead.
The newer WS-143 four hole brush plates have retainers for a WS-146 wick. Again Lionel recommended 10W light machine oil, but Mobil 1 or Amsoil 5W-20 would be ideal here, & on the bronze oil retaining bushing between the motor housing and the impeller(in all types of whistles).

Is there any way to lubricate the bushing on the side of the motor where the impeller attaches? The impeller is not easily removed and I am unable to get any lubricant on that bushing.

I use a needle oiler with Mobil 1 putting the needle down between two of the three poles of the armature. Another way, again with the needle oiler, is with the motor removed from the whistle chamber… if the needle is thin enough you can get in to the shaft & bushing with the oiler between the housing and the impeller.
