4 by 8 n scale track plans

Hello every one i am new to the hobby and i am going to start on a layout soon and i am looking for 4 by 8 track plans for n scale i havent had muck luck thanks zachary flowe

I’ve made a few 4x8 N scale plans that you can use or modify if you like. (Click on any of these to enlarge them)

This one is not quite 4x8…

This one was done in HO, but for N you could redo the yard and make it proper…

This is a 4x8 N scale that I played around with a bit and made some different track arrangements. Some are better then others. Some even have a two track staging yard under the scenery…

You can also take any HO scale plan, change the track centers and build it to N scale.

Now that I’ve got you thinking, let me show you something that might get you really going!

pcarrell: i love this track plan right here. do you have the actual demensions for this layout as far as the rise and run go.

Thank you! Thats one of the best ones I’ve ever done I think…at least for that size. As far as the stats go, my computer with that layout in RTS has since crashed, but if I remember right it uses a 15"r curve minimum (not bad at all I thought) but where you have some give there has to be some take, so most of the turnouts are #5’s with a couple of #7’s. You can tell the #5’s becaure they have a shorter piece of curved track on the diverging route (30"r) to bring the tracks back parallel then the #7’s do (72"r). As for the grade, never sat down and figured it exactly, but if you split the grade with one track rising while the other falls, getting the required 2" clearence shouldn’t give too stiff of a grade at all. Also. you could extend (or do future add-ons) in the upper left and lower right corners. Also, you could obviously change the scenery to make it just about anywhere. I picked the old west because short cars would make those somewhat generous curves look even larger. The biggest drawbacks to the plan are the shorter passing sidings and the quite modest yard, but actually by setting the timeframe back it minimizes both of those problems. The curved trestle is not a problem thanks to Walthers, but you’d have to kitbash it a little with a span from another kit (or scratchbuilt) so it can clear the lower tracks, but that shouldn’t be too bad and it would be a real eyecatcher.

To anyone that sees this if this thread is still active.

I would like to model the 4x8 track plan above (the one showing 7 pictures).

Can anyone give me more information on this plan, I can’t seem to find it anywhere else.
